2015 British Academy Film Awards Nomination Reaction

British Academy Film Awards是英國學院電影獎,有「英國奧斯卡」之稱。此頒獎禮與Academy Awards一樣,屬於重要的電影頒獎禮,而且這頒獎禮會較看重歐洲(主要是英國)電影,所以是另一個範圍較廣的頒獎禮。但近年頒獎禮的參選電影與奧斯卡的類近,所以提名名單都有很相似的地方,因此成為了一個重要的指標(尤其是得獎演員)。頒獎禮的提名於英國時間2015年1月10日公佈,並於2015年2月8日舉行頒獎禮。以下是今年的提名名單:

我們從小由身邊的長輩或老師口中,得知人的成長是很有條理的,只要隨著時間的流逝,人始終會長大。當我們到了青春期末的時候,我們在思想上會有很大的轉變(至少對我而言是正確的),同時會發覺人的成長並不是在於自己的年齡,而是取決於我們不同的體驗。成長原來不是我們認識的那樣簡單,我們人生的不同方面都可以經歷成長。小弟覺得電影中的主角和我有點相似,小時候的我不愛說話,很喜歡活在自己的世界;現在的我不算得是很成熟,但比起以前我覺得自己成長了不少。電影中的男主角Duncan(Liam James飾)的成長就在一次暑假的機會:他和母親Pam(Toni Collette飾)、母親男友Trent(Steve Carell飾)及其女兒Steph到海邊小鎮渡假。Trent經常言語上侮辱Duncan,並暗示他一無事處。他們到埗後遇上不同的鄰居:愛喝酒的Betty(Allison Janney飾)及其孩子Susanna(AnnaSophia Robb飾)和Peter及夫婦Kip和Joan。Duncan找到一輛小單車,並用它在城鎮內探索。他在披薩店遇到水上樂園員工Owen(Sam Rockwell飾),及後結伴回到樂園參觀並結識其他員工如Caitlyn(Maya Rudolph飾)、Lewis和Roddy。從中他得知有人在滑水梯內超前前一名玩家的傳說,並於樂園內工作。Duncan繼續受到家人的忽視,在美國獨立日那天Susanna嘗試透過外出及談話開解他,他又發現Trent和Joan背著其他人深情接吻。Pam懷疑另一半出軌但逃避現實,Duncan當眾指責她不敢接受,在得悉自己被親生父親拋棄後一走了之,Susanna在交談中躲避Duncan的吻,最後Duncan來到樂園參加Owen為歡送Lewis而舉辦的派對。Duncan到了新一天仍未想回家,Owen把問題分析後鼓勵Duncan體驗更多,也不而介懷Trent的說話。Pam、Trent、Steph和Duncan最終要離開,Susanna吻別Duncan,他亦於臨走時成功挑戰Owen有關水上樂園的傳說,Pam進一步了解Duncan的想法,儘管Trent依然沒有態度上的改變。

Liam James來自加拿大,在電視劇Psych的演出令他成功引起注目,八年來都有不少的演出經驗。這電影是他打開知名度的作品,其他之前的作品有Fred ClausAliens vs. Predator: Requiem2012。他的演出表達得到同類男孩的腼腆,不其然讓人同情他的遭遇,但事實上他的膽小內向才是他的絆腳石。他的角色主要任務完成得不錯,即使沒有其他加分的演出,但依然令人印象深刻。他暫時沒有電影的計劃,喜愛他的觀眾應該只可在電視劇The Killing看到他的蹤影。Sam Rockwell屬於演技派,無論正劇或喜劇的角色他都能夠掌握,尤其是他的配角演出到位時完全無人能及。他有不少知名的演出:柏林影展最佳男演員作品Confessions of a Dangerous Mind、科幻片MoonConviction。他算是這電影的焦點,因為他不慍不火的演技令角色充滿喜感,並豐富了電影的教育意義。他的角色好像我們人生中的啟蒙一樣,配合他精彩的演出,令觀眾很容易對這位演員產生好感。他的下一部推介是Don Verdean,這喜劇以他為中心,為觀眾帶出希望及歡笑,他的演出應該是電影重點之一。Steve Carell是美國的喜劇泰斗,但他的戲劇演出並不馬虎,近年他的轉型演出得到很多同業的支持。他的代表作有很多,包括獲得大眾喜愛的Little Miss SunshineEvan AlmightyCrazy, Stupid, Love。他的角色在這電影是丑角,他惡劣對待女友的兒子,並亂搞男女關係,實在令人氣憤。不過他的優秀演出突出了角色的反差,和主角造成很大的對比,而且更加證明他並非只適合演出喜感高的角色。他的下一部推介是Foxcatcher,這是他演藝事業的轉捩點,演出也備受讚賞,可能在即將公佈的Academy Awards提名看見他的名字。

這齣獨立電影並沒有濃妝豔抹地講故事,觀眾看完後會覺得很真實,而且很容易取得電影的共鳴。電影並沒有很深奧的教化作用,旨在透過簡單實在的生活,提醒我們應該學會的東西。有時候看得太多沉重的電影,這些輕鬆的小品給予我們重整思緒的機會,可能學會的是更多。新的一年,我希望會比過去一年過得更加有意義,讓我們體驗更多人生的甜酸苦辣,感受不同的喜怒哀樂,成就這篇文章所討論的成長。
