2017 Academy Awards Full List Final Prediction and Will/Should Win Plus Deliberations (For Some Awards)

This year can be full of surprises, so please stay tune for the Academy Awards on 27 February!! Here are my final predictions.

BEST PICTURE
Arrival
Fences
Hacksaw Ridge
Hell or High Water
Hidden Figures
La La Land
Lion
Manchester by the Sea
Moonlight
Will Win: La La Land
Could Win: Moonlight
Should Win: La La Land
Personal Favorite: Arrival
Deliberation: La La Land is getting all the love from everybody right now due to the genre and mainly its songs. Frankly the directing and techniques used in this movie are very exceptional and there should be no competition here. Moonlight can win it again due to the complaints for discrimination for black people last year. Arrival is also possible for the only Sci-Fi (sort of) representative although there was not any history for a Sci-Fi film to win here. Out of the eight nominees this year, I have watched seven of them (not including Fences and Hell or High Water).

BEST ACTOR IN LEADING ROLE
Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea
Andrew Garfield, Hacksaw Ridge
Ryan Gosling, La La Land
Viggo Mortensen, Captain Fantastic
Denzel Washington, Fences
Will Win: Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea
Could Win: Denzel Washington, Fences
Should Win: Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea
Personal Favorite: Casey Affleck, Manchester by the Sea
Deliberation: Casey Affleck gets the love from critics and Denzel Washington wins the votes from the industry. Suddenly it becomes a neck-to-neck race between the two. It is hard to make the call right now. Viggo Mortensen shows his acting skills in the movie and it is gladly to be complimented. Out of the five nominees, I have watched four of their performances (not including Denzel Washington).

BEST ACTRESS IN LEADING ROLE
Isabelle Huppert, Elle
Ruth Negga, Loving
Natalie Portman, Jackie
Emma Stone, La La Land
Meryl Streep, Florence Foster Jenkins
Will Win: Emma Stone, La La Land
Could Win: Isabelle Huppert, Elle
Should Win: Isabelle Huppert, Elle
Personal Favorite: Emma Stone, La La Land
Deliberation: Emma Stone can continue her buzz with the picture until the ceremony. She will probably win her first Oscar home. Isabelle Huppert is her biggest threat since there are not any direct competitions between them in other award ceremonies. Natalie Portman is a dark horse for this award for her portrayal of the former First Lady. It is happy to see Meryl Streep is on the list for her 20th nomination. Out of the five nominees, I have watched four of their performances (not including Ruth Negga).

BEST ACTOR IN SUPPORTING ROLE
Mahershala Ali, Moonlight
Jeff Bridges, Hell or High Water
Lucas Hedges, Manchester by the Sea
Dev Patel, Lion
Michael Shannon, Nocturnal Animals
Will Win: Mahershala Ali, Moonlight
Could Win: Dev Patel, Lion
Should Win: Mahershala Ali, Moonlight
Personal Favorite: Dev Patel, Lion
Deliberation: Mahershala Ali is the spotlight of the movie. His body of work in 2016 is widely appreciated by the industry and critics. The Oscar is in his pocket indeed. A show-up for Michael Shannon can mean something especially there are strong contenders in this category competing for nominations. Lucas Hedges and Dev Patel show us how young talents can perform alongside professional and experienced actors. Out of the five nominees, I have watched three of their performance (not including Jeff Bridges and Michael Shannon).

BEST ACTRESS IN SUPPORTING ROLE
Viola Davis, Fences
Naomie Harris, Moonlight
Nicole Kidman, Lion
Octavia Spencer, Hidden Figures
Michelle Williams, Manchester by the Sea
Will Win: Viola Davis, Fences
Could Win: Michelle Williams, Manchester by the Sea
Should Win: Viola Davis, Fences
Personal Favorite: Naomie Harris, Moonlight
Deliberation: Viola Davis is a sure bet in this category especially her last snub for The Help. I believe that she will earn Best Actress one day some time in the future. She is always a stunning actress in dramatic movies. Michelle Williams may have some buzz due to her overdue status. Nicole Kidman has an excellent performance too. Out of the five nominees, I have watched four of their performances (not including Viola Davis).

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE FILM
Kubo and the Two Strings
Moana
My Life as a Zucchini
The Red Turtle
Zootopia
Will Win: Zootopia
Could Win: Kubo and the Two Strings
Should Win: Zootopia
Personal Favorite: Kubo and the Two Strings
Deliberation: Disney continues to dominate in this category. Zootopia should be an easy win here without a keen competition. Kubo and the Two Strings may surprise us with the love of Academy but this is not very possible to happen. This year is a break for Japanese animation because GKIDS acquired my Life as a Zucchini. Out of the five nominees, I have watched two of them (not including Kubo and the Two Strings, My Life as a Zucchini and The Red Turtle).

BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY
Bradford Young, Arrival
Linus Sandgren, La La Land
Greig Fraser, Lion

Personal Favorite: Linus Sandgren, La La Land

Should Win: Madeline Fontaine, Jackie
Personal Favorite: Madeline Fontaine, Jackie

BEST DIRECTING
Denis Villeneuve, Arrival
Mel Gibson, Hacksaw Ridge
Damien Chazelle, La La Land
Kenneth Lonergan, Manchester by the Sea
Barry Jenkins, Moonlight
Will Win: Damien Chazelle, La La Land
Could Win: Barry Jenkins, Moonlight
Should Win: Damien Chazelle, La La Land
Personal Favorite: Denis Villeneuve, Arrival
Deliberation: Damien Chazelle made a history with his movie. Even though some audience may not find the movie very intriguing, his effort deserves to be recognized as we can see that there are so many sophisticated techniques used in the film. The direction of Denis Villeneuve is very mature and innovative. He takes a lot risks in the presentation of the theme of the movie and he succeeds to capture the hearts of the audience. Barry Jenkins can pop up if the voters focus on the inequality of the award last year. Out of the five nominees, I have watched all of their performances.
